2020 OAHU State Convention - GONE VIRTUAL!
Monday, July 13, 2020, 10:00 AM to Friday, July 17, 2020, 11:00 AM PDT
Category: NABIP-OR

After thoroughly examining our options, the OAHU Board of Directors has decided to move the OAHU Annual Convention from a in person platform to a virtual platform.   A successful convention relies on in-person networking and presentations  and with the current situation, we feel  it is not possible, given the continued social distancing measures. However, challenges and obstacles tend to open doors for innovation. With this in mind, we are introducing the OAHU Annual Convention GONE VIRTUAL with the theme this year of the Power of Us!   The Convention outline brings attendees one presentation each day for the week of July 13th!  This event allows us to deliver fantastic education to you safely and virtually, to the comfort of your home or office. We will be working with our exhibitors to still offer opportunities to connect, delivering information on cutting-edge technologies, products and services.

Join us for the Power of Us, OAHU’s 1st Annual Convention GONE VIRTUAL!

“What Does a PBM Do?”
The availability and growth of pharmacy benefit coverage for prescription medications has become increasingly complex in the delivery and reimbursement of medications. Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) play an important role in providing the mechanisms to organizations to address prescription drug management, cost and many other elements of the pharmaceutical supply chain.

The information in this course will help you understand the important role PBMs perform in the delivery of health care, the size and growth of the prescription drug market, and basic pharmacy benefit concepts (generic versus brand drugs, formularies/preferred drug lists, other key terms in the industry). The course will help you learn about the key responsibilities of PBMs, their various business models, how they make profits, what the national and regional landscape of PBMs looks like, and what to consider when you and your clients evaluate PBM’s services.

Clinical insights on the impact of COVID on health care claims in the medium- and long-term
We’ve all felt the disruption the novel coronavirus pandemic has brought to our personal and professional lives, but what about the lasting impacts with how care is utilized and delivered? Our clinical experts, Dr. Jim Polo, who specializes in behavioral health, and Dr. Amy Khan, who is a former epidemiologist with the CDC, will hold a virtual arm chair discussion where they discuss these topics, as well as audience questions: 1) Introducing personal hygiene practices, public health practices into the wider culture; 2) deep-ish dive into the epidemiology behind COVID-19; 3) how this virus manifests in a provider’s office, from the expected – respiratory – to the unexpected – stroke, and what this may mean for claims costs over time; 4) how might this pandemic impact health care delivery (i.e. virtual care) among “traditional” providers; and 5) expectations for second, third wave, including its potential drivers, such as “social distancing fatigue” and mental health.

COBRA Requirements and Best Practices During the COVID-19 Crisis
Federal and state COBRA laws often require employers to offer employees, spouses, and dependents continuing healthcare coverage when a triggering event, such as a reduction in hours, would otherwise cause a loss of coverage.  The COVID-19 pandemic and ensuing economic downturn has led to large numbers of reduced work hours, furloughs, and lay-offs.  In response, the Department of Labor recently issued rules and guidance affecting deadlines for providing COBRA election notices, making elections and premium payments during the “outbreak period” which began March 1, 2020.  We will explore the federal COBRA requirements, the recent DOL rules and guidance, and COBRA-related issues facing administrators, employers, and employees during the pandemic.
Approved for 1 Law CE Hour for Oregon and 1 General CE Hour for Washington.

Total: Six (6) credits have been approved by Oregon and Washington. Please note that CE has been filed per day.  Attendees must attend the entire presentation to receive CE credit for that day.  Zoom registration will be required each day per continuing education submission requirements.
